Twirl Play and Discovery Space
Free indoor and outdoor play in downtown Taos. Twirl is a nonprofit play-and-discovery organization with a Playsmart play structure, play room, Hobbit House, sandbox, kaleidoscope, koi pond, and other hands-on installations. It is a longstanding downtown destination for families.
The Rio Grande Gorge Bridge overlook, canyon views, and nearby West Rim Trail make the gorge one of the simplest ways to give a family a major Taos landscape experience without committing to a technical adventure.
Taos Ski Valley offers a full summer mountain day with scenic chairlift rides, lift-served mountain biking, lawn games, and pickleball.
Scenic Chairlift Rides
Lift 1 and Lift 4 go up to alpine views of Wheeler Peak and the Sangre de Cristo range. Ride up, picnic at the top, hike or ride back down.
Green Chile Flow Trail
A 3.9-mile lift-served mountain-biking trail through Kachina Basin. Taos Ski Valley rates it green/easy, but notes that it is better suited to novice riders than true first-time mountain bikers.

Eis Haus Lawn has soccer, bocce, and cornhole in the mountain air. Pickleball is available at a high-elevation mountain court.

The Wheeler Peak hike also starts from the TSV trailhead. That one is for experienced hikers with older kids only.
Taos-area rafting outfitters also offer gentler half-day float trips on calmer sections of the Rio Grande. These are a better family fit for children who are ready to be on the water without committing to the Class III-V whitewater of the Taos Box.
